Serengeti Plains Camp made its debut in June 2023, nestled deep in the eastern Serengeti—far from crowded trails and everyday distractions. Once reserved as a research outpost for big cat conservation, this area has evolved into a serene retreat, offering guests an authentic glimpse into the wilds of Africa. Generations of Maasai have called this region home long before it became the world-famous Serengeti National Park, and their respect for the land is still evident across the iconic grasslands and acacia trees that go as far as the eye can see.

A Land With Legacy

The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word siringet, meaning “endless plains.” This evocative description captures not just the visual breadth of the landscape but its timeless character. The Maasai people lived and thrived here for centuries before the arrival of European explorers such as Oscar Baumann in the 1890s.

Following growing colonial interest in preserving wildlife, the Serengeti’s formal protection began with its designation as a game reserve in 1921. By 1951, it achieved national park status, becoming Tanzania’s first and most iconic wildlife sanctuary. Today, the park is celebrated globally for the Great Migration, where vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle journey across its plains in one of Earth’s great natural spectacles.

Fun fact: The Serengeti migration was listed as one of Africa’s seven natural wonders in 2013 – around two million animals pass through the Serengeti every year.

The Tentickle Collection. Designed For Distinction In The Wild

While the landscape offers drama, it’s the camp’s design, and more specifically, its use of Tentickle luxury tents, that enable an experience of rare comfort and architectural clarity in such an untamed setting. Here are some of the signature Tentickle models that create a space that feels immersive, intentional, and utterly unforgettable.

The DESERT FOX XL Patio: The Camp’s Social Soul

The camp features the DESERT FOX XL Patio from Tentickle’s Explore range as its main lounge and dining hub. This sweeping pavilion combines form and function with striking effect, offering 137 m² of indoor living space, a 77 m² shaded patio, and a 265 m² stretch canopy that shelters it all beneath fluid architectural lines.  Its airy structure and high ceilings offer panoramic views of the surrounding plains, while natural airflow and generous shade ensure comfort even on the hottest days.

More than a functional gathering space, it fosters a spirit of camaraderie, a place where stories are exchanged over dinner, friendships form under starlit skies, and the hum of the wild becomes part of every shared experience.

MAESTRO Guest Tents

For guest accommodation, the camp features seven MAESTRO tents from Tentickle’s Glamper range. These units offer a rare fusion of high-end comfort and tactile engagement with nature. Each Maestro tent offers an expansive footprint of approximately 40 m², allowing for a thoughtfully arranged interior that accommodates either a king or twin bed, a cosy lounge area, and an en-suite bathroom with solar-heated water. Elevated on semi-permanent platforms, these tents protect guests from uneven terrain and damp ground while minimising environmental disturbance in the pristine wilderness.

Designed with a philosophy of indoor-outdoor continuity, each tent includes:

  • Panoramic openings for uninterrupted vistas and cross-ventilation.
  • Luxury furnishings, including premium bedding and East African motif decor.
  • Sustainable build materials, engineered to thrive in the region’s demanding climate.

The area surrounding Serengiti Plains Camp teems with exceptional resident wildlife, and there’s no better way to experience it than alongside the camp’s professional, highly knowledgeable guides. Daily game drives offer front-row encounters with the Serengeti’s most iconic species. Guests may also have the rare opportunity to visit the cheetah research project and gain deeper insight into the conservation efforts protecting these endangered big cats.

Why Tentickle Is The Tent Of Choice For Next-Gen Safari Camps

Tentickle’s reputation is built on the strength of its materials science as much as its design aesthetic. These tents are tailored for environments where conditions are harsh, maintenance access is limited, and guest expectations are high. Key features of Tentickle’s tent systems include:

Advanced Stretch Canopy Fabrics

Developed for extreme durability, Tentickle’s proprietary fabrics are UV-resistant, waterproof, breathable, and tailored to minimise heat build-up thanks to the innovative double-roofing system. This ensures thermal comfort across seasons without relying on energy-intensive cooling systems.

Flame-Retardant and Anti-Mould Treatment

All materials undergo rigorous safety and hygiene treatments, ensuring compliance with international standards and providing long-term peace of mind with minimal maintenance, a vital asset in remote locations where maintenance resources are limited. Superior-grade Velcro and high-performance zippers guarantee a 100% insect-free environment without compromising ventilation or comfort.

Adaptability and Low Environmental Impact

Tentickle’s tents are designed for rapid deployment and reconfiguration, making them ideal for mobile or semi-permanent eco-camps. The modular approach allows operators to expand, contract, or relocate the camp with minimal disruption to the terrain.
